If you
happen to be
viewing the famous children on bicycle mural
in Muntri Street,
you can make
a makan stop
at this nearby
beef noodle shop
located at the
junction of Chulia
Street and Beach
Street (Lebuh Pantai). It is an
old coffee shop
with marble-topped
tables. The only
other hawker stall
here sells oyster
omelette.

I called
for a small
bowl of beef
kway teow soup. It came with
beef balls, slices
of beef, a
chunk of darker
beef(brisket maybe?), bean
sprouts, a few tripe strips and generous
pieces of tendon.
The broth had
a satisfying deep flavour lifted
a notch by coriander leaves. The
meat was both
tender and chewy.
The tendons were my favourite – stewed to an
incomparable jelly-like texture
which is kind
to my jaws
without disappointing my enjoyment
of a chew . The
piquant chili sauce
went very well
with the soup. All
in all, it
is the best
beef soup I
have had in
Penang Island.

Foodies will have to hunt down this beef noodles in another location in the future. They are moving to a shoplot along Lebuh Carnavon(opposite Libraco) on 28th October 2015.
